NumberShire

Description

NumberShire, a new math video game for K-2 students built on a high standard of research and student engagement, shows success in helping students improve ability in mathematics and gets children excited to learn.

NumberShire teaches critical math concepts to kindergarten through second grade students, especially those at risk for mathematics difficulties, through a unique narrative approach featuring endearing characters, mini-games and rewards set in a whimsical Renaissance-style kingdom.

NumberShire has received funding from the U.S. Department of Education and private investment and represents the first product created through a collaboration between the Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL), the University of Oregon’s research center for education, and the experienced video game developers at Thought Cycle.

NumberShire has been extensively tested in real classrooms, using research standards defined by the U.S. Department of Education, to determine its effectiveness. Most ed tech products never submit themselves to these rigorous and important standards.

Now successfully used by over 1,000 first grade students in Oregon, Texas and Massachusetts, NumberShire has helped students make significant gains in math skills according to research conducted by CTL and independently evaluated by the Oregon Research Institute. Teachers are thrilled, parents are proud, and students are having a lot of fun learning the critical early math concepts they need to be successful in life.
